The Novodevichiy Convent

Today I got a card from Sergiyev Posad, a town  about 70km north-east of Moscow. The card shows  The Novodevichy (New Maiden) Convent in Moscow,  one of the most beautiful monasteries in Russia.

Located on the Moscow River, the convent is a peaceful retreat from the bustling city of Moscow. The site includes a beautiful 17th-century convent complex that is once again in use and an atmospheric cemetery where many of Russia's most famous writers, poets, politicians and public figures are buried. It was proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.

Distance: 2,268 km (1,409 miles)
Travel time: 20 days
